Test your Dylan fandom

Are you a Dylan fan, a Dylan fanatic or a Dylan obsessive. Take this quiz to determine your level of Dylan fandom.

Dylan's debut album. If you own it you could call yourself a fan, if you like it you're an obsessive.

You describe your favourite Dylan era as...

1. The afternoon when he recorded "Blowin in the wind"

2. The sixties.

3. The sixties and a few years in the mid-seventies.

4. The sixties, most of the seventies, Oh Mercy and everything from 1997 to the Sinatra albums.

5. Everything except Dylan and the Dead.

Your live Dylan collection consists of ...

1. At Budokan, you wish he did more sing-alongs.

2. The Bootleg series.

3. The Bootleg series and all the official releases.

4. Everything he's released and some bootleg CD's you picked up in a market somewhere.

5. "Well the shelves on that wall have all the 60's era bootlegs, that one is the seventies and eighties and if you come into this room I'll show you part one of the Never-Ending Tour."

How many times have you seen Dylan?

1. Never. I wasn't born in the sixties so how could I?

2. Once at a festival but I was there to see Mumford and Sons.

3. Once because some friends were going and we wanted to see him before he died. I didn't recognise any of the songs and I couldn't hear a word he was singing and I got really annoyed because he didn't talk to the audience. And they wouldn't let me take photos. What was the point of being there if I couldn't take a selfie.

4. I see him every time he comes to town.

5. Since he stopped changing his setlist every night I've cut down to 12 shows a year and refuse to travel more than three time zones to catch him.

Your Dylan collection consists of...

1. An Adele cover.

2. A greatest hits compilation a relative gave you for Christmas and a burnt copy of Blonde on Blonde.

3. Ten albums, you've heard the others aren't worth having.

4. All the official albums and some of the bootleg series.

5. Everything. Originally on vinyl and every remastered format.

"They'll stone you when you're trying to be so good, they'll stone you just like they said they would"

1. Who would? What are you talking about?

2. Oh, that's the Dylan song about drugs.

3. "Everybody must get stoned" I love that song.

4. Actually, it's called Rainy Day Women #12 and 35.

5. The 10th of March 1966. Wayne Moss on bass guitar. Kenny Buttrey on drums...

Your favourite non-fiction writer is

1. Jamie Oliver, his recipe books are amazing.

2. Anyone currently writing in Rolling Stone.

3. Clinton Heylin.

4. Michael Grey

5. Bob Dylan. You can recite passages of Chronicles from memory and you spend your evenings scouring the internet for references (and you know it's not really correct to call it "Non-fiction")

You're darkest Dylan admission is...

1. You don't think he can really sing.

2. You don't think he could sing after the 1980's.

3. You can't listen to the muppet era without laughing and making Kermit jokes.

4. You haven't listened to the eighties albums in over ten years.

5. You found Renaldo and Clara a bit dull on the 18th viewing.

If you saw Dylan on the street you would say...

1. Who is that old guy?

2. Hey look it's a guy who looks like an older version of Bob Dylan

3. Hey it's Dylan. Hi Bob! Hey, I just said hi to Bob Dylan.

4. ...urk...um...ah...oh...

5. Hey, can you stop putting cat litter in your rubbish? It makes it much harder to go through these bins.

Your non-Dylan album collection is best described as...

1. All your music collection.

2. Some Queen, some Beatles, a few greatest hits compilations.

3. Beatles, Stones, Neil Young, those sort of guys.

4. Postcards of the Hanging and other Dylan cover albums but you know nobody sings Dylan like Dylan.

5. non-existent.

When asked about Dylan's love life you would be forced to admit...

1. You're fairly sure he's heterosexual but beyond that...

2. You think he left his wife for Darryl Hannah.

3. You know there was that girl named Suze and then a wife and Joan Baez for a while.

4. You read Down The Highway in 2001 and thought "It's about time someone mentioned Carolyn Dennis."

5. Suze, Sara and Carolyn all issued restraining orders against you at one time or another and Joan's bodyguards have been ordered to beat you up on sight if they catch you on the premises again.
